The National Investment Commission (NIC) is the Liberian Government official center for Investment promotion and for the processing and conclusion of investment incentive agreements.
The Commission was created in 1979 by an Act of the National Legislature to encourage greater foreign investment and to accelerate economic growth.
The NIC also seeks to encourage investment in those sectors regarded as a national priority. In all of its activities, the commission works to raise the confidence of investors in our private sector driven economy thus, in addition to providing technical assistance helps to facilitate the process by which investors and the Government can arrive at mutually satisfactory agreements.
The National Investment Commission is headed by a chairman who has a ministerial status and reports directly to the President of Liberia. The chairman, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the commission, is appointed with the advice and consent of the senate, by the president of the Republic of Liberia.
The chairman of the National Investment Commission is the presiding officer of the board of commissioners comprising of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance Commerce and industry, justice and Economic affairs and the Deputy Minister of State for Economic Affairs.
The NIC also has a Secretariat which comprises of Technicians from the five Ministries enumerated above.
